The road to marriage
Catechumenal time for engaged couples
Marriage is a sacrament of such importance that it presupposes a period of preparation and reflection.
The catechumenate for engaged couples involves seizing the opportunity of a significant spiritual foundation to build one’s home on the rock that is Christ himself.
This implies acquiring a few notions about God’s revelation, tangible and palpable, if we are close to the Scriptures, the catechetical, sacramental and doctrinal teaching of the Church, not forgetting the experience and life of the saints, and the spiritual growth of both ourselves and others that Christian witness implies for our contemporaries. We become Christians together!
Engaged couples are invited to refer to their local parishes and to follow the proposals there. However, they can also take part in a shared and/or individual journey with three available oblates.

The union of the spouses is also its fruit. The sacrament of marriage doesn’t end with the celebration, but extends to everything that makes up the couple’s union. It is through the reciprocal gift that Christ’s grace is given to the spouses. The sacrament is a source of grace.
Through the sacrament of marriage, God makes our love possible by introducing us to a new dimension of love. Love received from an invisible, creative and divine source. By giving ourselves to one another through the exchange of consent, we welcome the Gift itself, that divine love which is the very Spirit of God through which Christ lived his life as man.
He does this by freeing us from the weight of our slavery. This liberation is a “daily struggle”, because God’s gifts are always grafted onto our human nature. There’s nothing magical about the sacraments!
God values our freedom more than we do, while giving us the graces and gifts we need to live it. The sacrament of marriage is God’s gift to the spouses, so that they may live by the law of love every day of their lives. It’s a gift they’ll need to draw on in prayer, in the sacraments, which are also sources of Life, and in the way they live with others.
Christian marriage is a demanding path on which we learn, with the light of the Holy Spirit, to dominate our egoisms in order to better love and live in freedom.
“A man will leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife, and the two will become one.”
